Reading order

Where to start, and what comes next.

Forty-four novels, four series, one timeline. Read them in the order below and nothing will be spoiled for you.

The short answer

Read The Silver Ships first. Pause for Pyreans before book 14.

The Silver Ships is where the saga begins and where almost every reader should start. Read it straight through in published order.

One detour matters. The author recommends reading the four Pyreans novels before Alliance, the fourteenth Silver Ships book, because the Pyreans storyline merges into the Silver Ships one at that point. Pyreans follows a third Earth colony ship, and its people and their descendants become part of the main story from Alliance onward.

After that, continue The Silver Ships to the end, then read Gate Ghosts, which follows the colonists of a fourth ship, and finally Cercians.

FAQ

Reading order questions

What is the correct reading order for the Earthers' saga?

Start with The Silver Ships and read that series in order. The author recommends reading the four Pyreans novels before Alliance, book 14 of The Silver Ships, because the two storylines merge there. Gate Ghosts follows, then Cercians.

Do I have to read Pyreans before Alliance?

The author recommends it. Pyreans follows a third Earth colony ship, and its characters and their descendants join the Silver Ships storyline in Alliance. Reading Pyreans first means those arrivals land with the weight they were written to have.

Can I read a later series first?

You can. Each series opens a new thread with a new cast and explains itself. You will meet returning characters without the history behind them, which most readers would rather not do on a first pass.

Are the books standalone?

No. Within a series each novel continues directly from the last. The saga is one long story rather than a set of self-contained books.

How many books are there in total?

Forty-four: The Silver Ships (20), Pyreans (4), Gate Ghosts (14) and Cercians (6).
